The physical education requirement at Duchesne may be fulfilled by completing four semesters of general physical education/health classes. Physical education is required during all four years at Duchesne with each course being a semester long. The physical education/health program emphasizes healthy lifetime sports and also provides an aerobic dimension to its content.
- All Freshmen are required to take Physical Education I/Dance I
- All Sophomores are required to take Physical Education II/Health
- All Juniors and Seniors are required to take Physical Education III/IV
PHYSICAL EDUCATION I/DANCE
In this introductory physical education course each unit consists of working on skills and becoming familiar with the history, rules court/field and the game. Emphasis is placed on team sports and activities.
This dance class is taken by all freshmen in conjunction with PE I. It is a beginning social dance class. Social dances from the waltz to the cha-cha will be introduced. Proper body alignment and dance etiquette are addressed.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION II/HEALTH (Prerequisite PE I)
In this physical education class the teaching of skills continues along with the history, rules, court/field and the game. Emphasis is also placed on team sports and activities with the integration of some individual sports or activities.
This health class examines a wellness approach to each individual’s lifestyle, helps them make goals and plans to achieve and maintain optimum health. Information on all aspects of health, physical, mental and social will be given. The instructor will work closely with the Counselor to give students an in depth look at stress and stress management.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION III/IV - (Prerequisite PE II)
This per semester graded Physical Education class is designed to:
- Enhance student awareness, skill and information of lifetime activities and fitness;
- Identify personal physical strengths and weaknesses;
- Recognize personal attitudes about one’s own fitness through PE “Journaling;
- Integrate digital formats for presentations, reporting, evaluation and reflection;
- Learn new skills setting fitness goals
- Discovery of what lifetime activities the city of Omaha has to offer.
Senior Waiver from PE/3/4
Seniors ONLY may have their 4th semester of PE waived IF
- 3 semesters of PE are completed by the end of junior year, including PE I/Dance and PE II/Health
- the student has participated in at least one Duchesne-sponsored sport each year–grades 9-11
