COMPUTER ESSENTIALS
In this course students will learn the essentials of computer usage and maintenance, including appropriate and ethical communications. Throughout this course students will gain experience with tools and software to maintain and troubleshoot their own computer problems. This is a first semester course required of all sophomores.
HELP DESK (full year or half credit available)
This course focuses on the introduction and challenges of laptop use and maintenance. Course topics include but are not limited to: initial installation, configuring the hard drive, installing and trouble shooting peripherals, loading software, time management, customer relation skills, trouble shooting applications, basic understanding of networking, and understanding of the dynamics of effective teaching of computer skills. Students will gain these skills through experience, peer teaching, instruction from the IT coordinator, and research.
INTRODUCTION TO WEB DESIGN (Prerequisite: Computer Essentials or instructor permission)
In this 2nd Semester independent study course, students will gain an understanding of fundamental Web design principles. Using Dreamweaver, students will learn how to set up workspace, define a site, work with images, links, CSS and other assets, and how to use the new template to create a webpage. Throughout this course, students will become skilled and creative users of Web design technology and create functional web sites that engage their target audience.
