Summer Reading
Summer 2024:
The community will read The Lemon Tree by Sandy Tolan, a non-fiction history of the Arab-Israeli conflict told through the experiences of a Palestinian man and Jewish woman who met in 1967 and maintained a dialogue throughout their lives.
Every student is also required to complete the first book of their literature curriculum by the first day of school. Students will be tested over these novels, so a closer read is highly encouraged.
The Lemon Tree will not be assessed. It should be read to deepen understanding of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict and to appreciate the courage of the two main character’s dialogue amid this conflict. No dates, names, or timeline need to be memorized. Mrs. Reinhart, World Cultures teacher and Social Studies Department Chair, created a guide to help those who have not yet taken World Cultures or who need a refresher about the conflict.
