Children of Mary

Dear Members and Potential Members of the Children of Mary of the Sacred Heart,

We hope everyone had a refreshing summer break. For those who joined us last year, it was a success due to your in-person and virtual participation and we are so very grateful. For those considering membership this year, we hope you will join this wonderful group of spiritual women who meet at Duchesne every First Friday from October through May (excluding January and February, where we will send virtual spiritual reflections) for a speaker and Mass, as founded by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat in the 1830’s.

Please mark your calendar for the 2024-2025 meetings:
Friday, October 4, 2024 – Joyce Glenn
Friday, November 1, 2024 – Susan Naatz
Friday, December 6, 2024 – Bridget Bearss RSCJ
Friday, March 7, 2025 – Nancy Kehoe RSCJ
Friday, April 4, 2025- Sharon Karam RSCJ: Morning of Reflection
Friday, May 2, 2025 – Meg Brudney, State of School
*End of year luncheon to follow

This year, we will begin with Mass in the Chapel at 10:30 am central time. Our speakers will then begin at 11:15 am and conclude by 12:00 pm. Please note our meetings will take place in the Sister Fitzpatrick Grand Hall this year, and the April Morning of Reflection will last until approximately 12:30 pm as a mini retreat. Both Mass and speakers will be available via Zoom for those unable to come in person, and will be recorded for access in the future. For those coming in person, parking will still be available in the first two rows of the student lot off of 36th and California streets as marked by the cones.

Our annual dues will be $40.00. This year Children of Mary will contribute towards travel costs for the RSCJ we bring in and use dues to pay the priests a stipend. Aside from costs for speakers and priests, all other funds go towards the Children of Mary scholarship fund. We wish to express gratitude to our inactive members who continue to show interest and support the sodality through their continued membership.

As always, alum status is not necessary for membership or to receive the Children of Mary medal; any woman can become a member. To receive a medal, as is Children of Mary tradition, your attendance at six program presentations is required and they need not be consecutive. We will bless and present medals at our last meeting of the year, so please contact Trisha Meehan (tmeehan@duchesneacademy.org) if you would like to order a medal.

We look forward to sharing this upcoming year of spiritual growth and deepening our love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our connection with each other as Saint Madeleine Sophie desired.

In the Heart,
