The Outstanding Athlete Award honors athletes that demonstrate, among other qualities, superior athletic ability and exemplary leadership in and out of the sport:
Coach Weber writes, “She is by far the best high school female tennis player in Nebraska, class A or B.” After losing her freshman year play to Covid, Sophomore year she won #1 Doubles. She won the #1 Singles state title/championship junior year without losing a single game in the entire state tournament. This athlete embodies absolute domination. This season she has lost only 10 games in 25 matches and finished the RCC conference 8-0. She beat Skutt; she beat Norris and she won the #1 state singles title again this year. She is a leader for her team who played with poise and class. Congratulations, Ina!
Sportsmanship Award: This senior lost her freshman season to COVID and sophomore year to a torn ACL After her injury, she remained committed to the team attending every game and cheering on her teammates from the sideline. She worked, rehabbed, and got back on the field as a junior. All of her efforts paid off and she started and played nearly every minute on the varsity soccer field her junior year. She led in the most positive way, always building players up and never criticizing from the back line. She was instrumental in our 15-4 season. This fall, she tore her other ACL and missed her senior season. Once again, she has remained loyal to the team, has an unwavering positive attitude and was voted a captain by her team. She is determined to lead from wherever she is and show up for her team the best she can regardless of the circumstance. She builds community within the soccer program that ultimately impacts all of Duchesne in a positive manner. If you looked up “how to be a teammate the right way” online, the first result would be “Libby Moore.” |
Success in Studies
One of the beautiful parts of our culture at Duchesne is the way that we all challenge each other to be our best academic self. We cheer each other on to academic achievement and challenge each other’s ideas and work. This year’s Success in Studies recipient set the tone for her classmates in the classroom. She took the most challenging curriculum possible and never complained about the work; indeed, she seems to revel in it. Lauded equally by her math and science teachers and her humanities teachers, this student excelled in analytics, research, writing, and critical thinking. Her tests were used as grading keys and she aced them all, just like her tennis serve. Congratulations to this year’s success in studies, Ina Satpathy.
Stuart Creativity
This year’s Stuart Creativity recipient has integrated her passion for art with her Senior Service Immersion Experience, researching different service sites relating to art and sharing a detailed presentation about how she integrated her love of art with direct service to others. she was the driving force for Duchesne getting the AP Studio offering. She shares her talents with her school and larger community in powerful ways.
This year’s creativity award goes to a student who has shown a great diversity in her classes: painting, digital, sculpture, etc. and has taken 2D, 3D, AP art making her a little more well-rounded as an artist. Simply put, she is one of the best artists at Duchesne. Scholastic Art and Writing Awards agrees that this student is one of the best in the nation and has recognized her with a national medal, which we will give to her today.
Congratulations Sophia Harding and Liz Gaytan!
Duchesne Prize
This year’s Duchesne Prize recipient has been recognized by her classmates, teachers and the student body as someone who embodies our charism. One student wrote, “she is deeply rooted in her faith and such a bright and cheerful presence. Whenever I interact with her, I am constantly in awe of her maturity. I think she embodies the 5 goals of the Sacred Heart in the way she practices her faith, studies diligently, makes everyone around her feel welcome and expresses her talent on the stage. “
Her classmate and friend wrote, “Freshman or sophomore year we made up a little family tree out of our friend group, and she was my ‘mom’ in it. She truly embodies the loving and caring qualities that any mother has. I can’t think of a more sweet human being. (If she ends up winning, please include “I love you mom!”)
And from another, “Ellie Glenn is committed to growth and self-discovery as a child of the Sacred Heart. She immerses herself in her faith and challenges herself to connect to God in a deeper way as well as clearly demonstrates her dedication to her studies. She is determined, loving, bursting with love, and makes everyone who crosses her path feel welcomed.”
