Mrs. Carol Classe taught math at Duchesne for 35 years, is a parent and grandparent of Duchesne alums and a long time friend of Sacred Heart education. She and her husband, Steve, made a donation to the school this fall and asked us to identify a junior with a strong academic record, a commitment to athletics, and financial need. We identified two such juniors that will receive the Classe family scholarship toward her tuition.

Courage and Confidence

St. Madeleine Sophie Barat’s battle cry “Courage and Confidence” and Duchesne Academy’s goal to form women of conscience is seen in the halls of Duchesne every day. The students being honored today live up to St. Madeleine Sophie’s battle cry and lived up to challenges with Courage and Confidence. Please come forward.

The senior class demonstrated exceptional courage and confidence by engaging in meaningful civil discourse on complex and sensitive topics, including abortion, immigration, and the death penalty, during their Christian Morality course last semester. Each student approached these conversations with respect and integrity, articulating their own beliefs thoughtfully while listening to their classmates with attentiveness and empathy. In doing so, they honored the bonds within their class community and upheld the dignity of individual freedom, allowing every voice to be heard. These discussions not only reflected the depth of their character but also embodied the Five Goals of Sacred Heart education, exemplifying what it truly means to be Sacred Heart students.  Well done, seniors!

This student showed great courage and confidence by attending a Community Meeting and asking well thought out questions about the Crossroad's Development to gain more information and understanding for her group engineering project. (She was on KETV as well for this) Well done, Elizabeth Gibson.

The Spirit of Kindness Award – Presented by Mr. Schroder

Our recipient this year has been described by classmates as someone filled with kindness and encouragement – the sweetest person – that goes out of her way to talk to everyone – and is constantly thinking of others.  One of her classmates said, “She is one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. She is actively selfless and working for the benefit of others and it shows in her kind spirit and love for our grade.”

This student’s kind spirit and commitment to building community – have often taken the form of acts of service by being extremely generous with her time, energy, and love to those around her. Routinely going out of her way to help others and lighten someone’s daily burden. Adults and students alike describe specific times this senior has brightened the halls of Duchesne over the last four years – with a constant smile, thoughtful note, or well-timed act of kindness – often in the form of baked goods.

It is not these baked treats per say – which are very good by the way – but the thoughtful and generous mindset of our recipient – that crafts and delivers these items to those around her – that were mentioned – again and again – by everyone.

One student wrote: "She is a walking ray of sunshine and always so positive." Many others shared: Her generosity is something I strive for - she goes the extra mile, and not for the recognition.

Perhaps one member of A’26 said it best: “She is quite literally the most benevolent person I’ve ever met. Whether it’s little things like remembering birthdays and things you’ve talked about, or big things like bringing treats for everyone. She always puts a smile on my face.  I’ve genuinely been brought to tears multiple times just by her acts of kindnessShe is a genuine, kind soul. I could not think of someone more deserving than her.

It is my great pleasure to present this year’s Spirit of Kindness award to – Lauren Cox.  Congratulations!
