Barat Service Award
St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, the founder of the Society of the Sacred Heart, was a person who responded to the needs of her time. Whether it was helping those who were persecuted during the French Revolution or opening schools for the education of young women, she was a person who always had before her the needs of others. Sacred Heart schools aspire to make each student open-eyed to the needs of others and generous and courageous in service. The Barat Service Award is given to those students who have made service a part of their lives and who have generously shared, on an on-going basis, their time and talents.

Courage and Confidence
St. Madeleine Sophie Barat’s battle cry “Courage and Confidence” and Duchesne Academy’s goal to form women of conscience is seen in the halls of Duchesne every day. The students being honored today live up to St. Madeleine Sophie’s battle cry and lived up to challenges with Courage and Confidence.

Aubrey Nguyen- The development department would like to recognize Aubrey Nguyen as a student who showed courage and confidence when being asked to design and create artwork for the Alum Spring mailing for the Duchesne Fund. She was immediately willing to help upon being asked this favor and she did so in a timely manner. They are so grateful for her artistic abilities and her courage to say ‘yes’ when showcasing her skills to our alumnae.

Sophie Owens, Tatum Vaughan, and Claire Niehaus-  Three seniors approached Ms. Goliber to talk about the fact that they would be missing some class time due to soccer. She asked them to bring her their soccer schedule, and then they spent a half hour during their free block working with her to see what days they would miss/what we would be doing on those days.  Ms. Goliber was so impressed with their initiative and their level of responsibility  and the good example they set for others.

Lauren Gilner- showed courage and confidence during robotics competitions where she served as her team's alliance captain.  She was respectful, articulate, and strategic in how she chose to deal with uncomfortable situations that came up during the alliance selection process.

Sarah Willson- showed courage and confidence by attending the Create US Open Robotics competition to gather research for her project on gender roles in middle school and high school robotics programs.  The CREATE US Open is an international event and Sasha showed professionalism in her communication with coaches and students and was creative in how she gathered information in order to reach a broader audience.

Lilly Risch-Bakhit- went on an RSCJ/Sacred Heart trip to Mexico for her Senior Service Immersion Experience.  It takes courage and confidence to travel to another country by yourself, and she did so in order to more fully live out her devotion to being a child of the Sacred Heart.
